Does Thai Airways provide vegan meals? Yes, they do!
I recently took two flights with Thai Airways, from Singapore to Bangkok, and Bangkok to Singapore.
Thankfully, Thai Airways is knowledgeable when it comes to their special meals.

Does Thai Airways Provide Free Meals?
Thai Airways provides complimentary snacks or hot meals on all flights.
Even though the flight from Singapore to Bangkok was just 2.5 hours, I received a complete hot vegan meal.
Other airlines flying into or from Bangkok within Asia usually do not provide free meals.
What Are the Vegan Meal Options on Thai Airways?
Thai Airways has more than one vegan meal option.
To see which ones are available, go to their special meals page.
From the special meals, these are the vegan options:
- VGML Strict European vegetarian. No animal products of any type.
- VOML Vegetarian oriental meal prepared in Chinese style.
- VJML Vegetarian Jain meal / strict Indian vegetarian.
- RVML Raw vegetarian meal is a mixture of fresh vegetable and fruits.
- FPML Fruit platter meal prepared with fresh fruits or dried fruits.
Note these special meal options are vegetarian, not vegan:
- VLML Non-strict vegetarian prepared with dairy products (eggs, cheese, fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts).
- AVML Indian vegetarian meal
Thai Airways Vegan Meals Review
Thai Airways provides complete, and filling meals, so you won’t get hungry.
Though the meals could use more flavor for my personal taste, the vegetables were always fresh and good quality.
Singapore to Bangkok Flight, 2023
I chose the Vegetarian Oriental Meal (VOML) and here’s what I got:
Vegetable curry and rice, vegetable side, pandan pudding made with coconut milk, bread roll and vegan margarine.
Bangkok to Singapore Flight, 2022
I chose the Vegetarian Oriental Meal (VOML) and here’s what I got:
Vegetable stir-fry and rice, vegetable side, pandan pudding made with coconut milk, bread roll and vegan margarine. The sauce on the side salad was good.
Everything was just okay, but still satisfying and filling.
I’ll try out a different meal next time since they do have other special vegan meal options.
How to Request a Vegan Meal on Thai Airways
You can request a special in-flight meal with Thai Airways during your booking. Your confirmed special meal will appear on both your reservation email and electronic PDF ticket:
To book a special vegan meal on Thai Airways after you book your flight, look for your booking on the Thai Airways website and then choose your special meal. www.thaiairways.com/sites/en/before_you_fly/additional_services/Special_meals.page
You’ll receive a confirmation email like this:
When Can You Request a Special Meal on Thai Airways?
You can request your vegan meal up to 24 and 48 hours before your flight.
From their website:
“Special meal selection is available up to 24hrs before scheduled departure time on flights departing from Bangkok, and up to 48hrs before scheduled departure time on flights into Bangkok. Only on THAI operated flights (TG 3 digits flights).”
When Do You Get Served Your Vegan Meal?
Special meals generally get served first, and early. Sometimes you’ve finished your food before others are even served! (I personally wait until my row gets served before I start eating, just a cultural thing. Unless I’m really hungry.)
That being said, don’t change your seat since the special meal is assigned to your seat number.
If there are lots of seats and you want to move, make sure to tell them first that you’re moving and if it’s possible to serve your vegan meal at your new seat.
Meals are generally served an hour or two after landing and before arrival.
Thumbs Up for Thai Airways Vegan Meals
While I’ve had better vegan airline meals such as Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways have been reliable for special meal requests, and their in-flight crew are really friendly.
I always try to book with Thai Airways when I can for their quality service.
