Best Vegan Restaurants in Chiang Mai (Honest Reviews + Photos)

If you’re a vegan in Chiang Mai, Thailand, you’re in luck! Chiang Mai is one of the best cities for vegans, vegetarians, and plant-based eaters.

This was my second time visiting, seven years apart, and there’s even more vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai than ever before. (Plus the vegan options at 7-Eleven too!)

The first time I went to Chiang Mai was for a vegan fruit festival, and I had the best time trying vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai with other vegheads I met.

Here’s 7 of the best vegan food in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

1. Anchan Restaurant

Anchan Restaurant is one of the best vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai. Their dishes are high quality, healthy, and packed with flavor. They offer a wide variety of vegan Thai dishes that are made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Anchan Restaurant is known for its vegan curries vegan and stir frys. They also offer a selection of fresh juices and smoothies, as well as vegan desserts.

The restaurant is open daily from 11am to 9pm.

Definitely add Anchan Restaurant to your list of vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai to visit.

2. I’m Your Vegan Restaurant

I’m Your Vegan is a vegan restaurant in Nimman, Chiang Mai that opened in 2021. They serve creative western-fusion dishes.

You can get starters like vegan “shrimp” and fried chik’n. Their vegan burgers include Japanese-style, Mexican, and Thai-flavored.

Classic Burger - I'm Your Vegan Restaurant Chiang Mai Thailand: A vibrant vegan burger with a red sesame seed bun, filled with a plant-based patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, and topped with ketchup and vegan mayonnaise. The burger is served on a wooden tray alongside a portion of French fries and three small cups of colorful sauces—red, green, and blue. A small flag reading "No Meat" is placed on top of the burger, emphasizing its vegan nature. The setting is casual and playful, with bright colors adding to the appeal of the meal.

I had the Classic Burger, fries with colored aioli, and a mango smoothie, all which were really good and filling. The mango smoothie was one of the best I had in Chiang Mai. They also have a lot of vegan milkshake options.

I’d definitely visit again, and this vegan eatery is a top vegan restaurant in Nimman, Chiang Mai.

3. May Kaidee Restaurant

Pineapple Fried Rice and Thai Iced Tea - May Kaidee Vegan Restaurant Chiang Mai Thailand: A plate of pineapple fried rice garnished with cashew nuts, sesame seeds, and accompanied by cucumber slices, served on a white dish with a spoon and fork. May Kaidee is probably my favorite vegan restaurant in Chiang Mai. They also have locations in Bangkok and New York.

This restaurant location is run by the sweetest family and cook northern Thailand and Isaan-style vegan food. They also offer popular cooking classes for vegan Thai food.

Mango Sticky Rice - May Kaidee Vegan Restaurant Chiang Mai Thailand: A beautifully presented plate of mango sticky rice, a popular Thai dessert. The dish features purple sticky rice shaped into a heart, topped with a small piece of coconut cream and sprinkled with sesame seeds. It is accompanied by fresh slices of ripe mango on one side and banana slices drizzled with coconut milk on the other. The dessert is served in a shallow white bowl with a spoon, and the pink-hued coconut milk base adds a colorful and enticing touch to this traditional vegan treat.

All of the dishes are flavorful, cooked fresh, and more affordable than most vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai.

4. Khun Kae’s Juice & Smoothie Bar

The setting is casual and inviting, with the meal served on a wooden table, enhancing the natural and healthy vibe of the dish.

Khun Kae’s Juice & Smoothie Bar is a vegan juice and smoothie bar in Chiang Mai old town. This quaint cafe serves fresh and healthy smoothie bowls, smoothies, juices, and drinks made from locally sourced fruits and vegetables.

Their smoothie bowls that are topped with lots of nuts and fruits are only around $3-4 USD, and their smoothies and juices start at $1.50 USD.

They’re open from 9am-7:30pm. There’s indoor seating, but is does get busy around 11am.

This is the perfect vegan breakfast in Chiang Mai.

5. Vegan Heaven Restaurant

Vegan Heaven is one of the more well-known vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai. They serve vegan Thai food, Western-style dishes, and fusion dishes.

They have one of the largest vegan menus I’ve ever seen. They also have a wide selection of vegan desserts, such as brownies, waffles, and ice cream, as well as a variety of fresh juices and smoothies.

Pineapple Fried Rice - Vegan Heaven Restaurant Chiang Mai Thailand: A vibrant and tropical dish of pineapple fried rice served in a hollowed-out pineapple shell. The rice is mixed with a variety of vegetables, including broccoli, carrots, and corn, and topped with crispy fried shallots for added texture. The presentation is colorful and inviting, with fresh lettuce, cucumber, and tomato slices garnishing the plate. The dish captures the essence of Thai flavors with a creative and visually appealing twist.

I got the pineapple fried rice and vegan Massaman curry. Both weren’t my favorite vegan versions of these in the vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai that I’ve been to, but yummy nonetheless.

Vegan Heaven is open daily from 9am to 10pm, and have plenty of seating.

6. 7 Senses Gelato

7 Senses Gelato is a not all vegan, but they offer a wide range of vegan gelato flavors made from coconut milk.

They have vegan options labeled at the counter, but also have separate menus for more vegan gelato options, which will be marked by a green vegan box.

I tried their vegan pistachio gelato and it was so creamy, flavorful, and high quality. I’d definitely go again to try more flavors!

7. The Donut Cafe

The Donut Cafe is not a vegan nor vegetarian cafe in Chiang Mai, but all of their donuts are vegan. They also serve vegan savory options like breakfast muffins and coffee.

Their donuts were really good. A mix between yeast and cake donuts. Their donut flavors include maple pecan, coffee crunch, and strawberry lemonade.

Each donut was 50 bhat, or $1.40 USD.

Another good option for vegan breakfast in Chiang Mai. Buy a bunch, and save for other days.

Chiang Mai, Thailand continues to be one of my favorite cities as a vegan.

There were more than ten vegan restaurants within 15-minutes walking distance of the hotel I stayed at in Old City.

Chiang Mai has a higher concentration of vegan and vegetarian restaurants per capita. Chiang Mai remains a destination for vegans looking for a unique foodie experience in Thailand.

Best Area to stay for vegans in Chiang Mai?

If you are a vegan and planning to stay in Chiang Mai, stay in either the Nimman area or Old City, Chiang Mai. These two areas are known to be a vegan-friendly areas, with plenty of vegan restaurants within walking distance, or a short TukTuk or Grab ride away.

Are menus in English?

Yes, generally, menus at non-vegan and vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai will be in English. You can always use the Papago or Google Translate app.
