Tips for eating vegan in Honolulu

In case you are traveling with non-vegans, here’s my advice:

  • Look up the menus of the restaurants your group is suggesting and see which places offer the best vegan food options, then suggest the final choice.
  • Look for a vegan restaurant in Honolulu near where you’re all headed and suggest everyone pick up food and eat at a nearby beach or park, or eat it back at the hotel and hang out there.
  • A lot of restaurants in tourist areas are more westernized and there’s usually vegan or veganizable vegetarian food options on the menu. At different non-vegan restaurants we went to, I had an Impossible burger and a tofu-vegetable poke bowl.

At some point, I did temporarily part ways to try a vegan restaurant in Honolulu that I really wanted to try while they went to one of their bucket list restaurants where the vegan options were just fries.

I LOVE fries, but I don’t go to Hawaii often nor get to eat vegan loco moco?!

Treat Yourself but Don’t Stress!

While there’s plenty of vegan food and vegan restaurants in Honolulu, you may be traveling with non-vegans. Sometimes this means parting ways for a little so you’re able to try the vegan restaurants. Sometimes it’ll be them joining you, or finding a middle-ground restaurant.

Eating delicious vegan food while traveling is such a nice thing, but make sure not to stress over it! Enjoy your time spent with others, BUT that also doesn’t mean you need to starve yourself or settle for a side of fries every single time!
