Where to Stay in Busan for First-Time Visitors (Ultimate Guide)

I’ve visited Busan five times now, and while there’s many areas to stay in, a few stood out that made my trips memorable.

Ideally, you’ll want a place near public transit so it’s easy to get around, while still having a comfortable area to unwind at the start and end of the day.

Busan is really the perfect city to take in right in the morning and at night.

Below are the three best areas to stay in Busan, along with recommendations and the hotels I’ve personally stayed at to help you decide where to stay in Busan.

Three Most Popular Areas to Stay in Busan

Busan is South Korea’s second-largest city, and each neighborhood has its own distinct feel.

Picking where to stay in Busan can make it easier to spend more time enjoying the sights, especially for short trips.

When choosing your stay, just focus on these three main areas: Haeundae Beach, Gwangalli Beach, and Seomyeon:

How Many Nights Should You Stay in Busan?

Most of my Busan stays have been a mix of 3 to 5 nights.

If Busan is just one part of a longer Korea itinerary, here’s a rough guide:

2 days in Busan: Enough time to visit top attractions like Gamcheon Culture Village, Busan’s main beaches, and popular observatories.

3–4 days in Busan: Allows time to explore additional cultural sites and enjoy more of Busan’s coastal scenery.

5 days or more in Busan: Ideal for seeing most major attractions, discovering hidden spots, and spending time relaxing at the beaches.

Option 1: Haeundae Beach – for Beach Fans and Summer Nightlife

Haeundae is the most popular tourist-friendly choice for first-time stays.

I recommend staying here especially during the months of May through summer, where it’s livelier and the beach is open for swimming.

Pros of Staying in Haeundae Beach

• Best beach for swimming or relaxing on the beach (better sand in my opinion).
• Close to popular attractions that are within walking distance or a short bus or train ride away.
• If you’re taking day trips to Gyeongju, Daegu, etc. you can use the Haeundae Intercity Bus Terminal vs. going all the way to the central or northern bus terminals.

Cons

• If you’re staying on the main promenade, it can get quite noisy ‘til late night.
• During off-season months, it’s not too lively compared to Gwangalli Beach.

📍 Things to Do Near Haeundae Beach

• Haeundae Traditional Market – A short walk from the beach located within the Haeundae promenade.
• Dongbaekseom Island & Coastal Trail – A scenic trail around the peninsula at the end of Haeundae, with ocean views, a lighthouse, and photo spots.
• The Bay 101 – Marina-side restaurants and cafes with night views of the Haeundae skyline reflected on the water.
• Haeundae Blueline Park – Take the sky capsule or coastal train from Mipo to Cheongsapo Daritdol Skywalk, and views back toward Haeundae.

• Park Hyatt Busan – Sleek, modern design with floor-to-ceiling windows and beautiful views over the harbor.

Mid-Range

• Ramada Encore by Wyndham – Comfortable mid-range hotel close to the subway and the beach.
• Best Western Haeundae – One of my Haeundae stays located right on the promenade across the beach. Clean and comfortable – though during summer nights you’ll hear the lively promenade.

Budget-Friendly

• Show Hotel – I’ve stayed here before and it’s eccentrically decorated and colorful, but clean, very affordable if you’re on a budget, and right next to the beach and train station.

Option 2: Gwangalli Beach – Best for Night Views and Walks

Gwangalli Beach is my favorite place to visit in Busan at night.

I’ve stayed here just so I could walk by each evening to end my day of sightseeing.

There are always people around even outside of peak season, and the beach is well lit along the entire stretch. The area feels slightly more local.

Pros of Staying in Gwangalli Beach

• Some of the best night views in Busan plus where you’ll find relaxed music street performances.
• The iconic Gwangan Bridge, which lights up beautifully at night.
• A quieter and more family-friendly beach to visit at night.

Cons

• Not as central as Seomyeon if you’re planning lots of cross-city sightseeing.
• Not as many luxury hotels or budget hotels as in Haeundae.

📍 Things to Do Near Gwangalli Beach

• Gwangalli Beach – Relax during the day, then come back at night to watch Gwangan Bridge light up across the water.
• Millak Waterside Park – Just up the coast from Gwangalli; grab convenience-store snacks or have a picnic on the steps with ocean views.
• Haeundae Beach – the beach is located just across the bridge.

Waterfront Hotels

• Homers Hotel – Slightly older 5-star hotel but right on the waterfront. I stayed here on my last trip and loved stepping out to a view of the beach and Gwangan bridge. There’s also a large rooftop balcony where you can drink tea and enjoy the beach view during sunrise, sunset, and at night:

• Kent Hotel Gwangalli by Kensington – Modern hotel by the beachfront, with many rooms facing the water.
• Central Bay Hotel – Solid mid-range option within walking distance of Gwangalli Beach. Rooms are simple and comfortable.

Mid-Range

• Hotel 1 – Minimalist, design-forward rooms right on the beach. Many rooms have big windows and some even have bathtubs with a direct view of the sea or bridge.
• Gwangan Hound Hotel – A solid, good-value option just a short walk from the beach with clean, modern interiors.

Budget

• Hotel Mirage – I stayed at this hotel and it was an older, but comfortable hotel stay just one block away from the beach.

Option 3: Seomyeon – Best for Shopping, Nightlife & a Central Base

If you care more about food, nightlife, shopping, and convenience than being near the beach, Seomyeon is a good choice for the best area to stay in Busan.

Pros of Staying in Seomyeon

• Very central transport hub and well-connected—great if you want to see a lot in a short time.
• Huge range of restaurants, cafes, and nightlife options.
• Good mix of hotel price points and often cheaper.
• Feels like the “city center” of Busan.

Cons

• No beach or ocean views.
• It can get busy, particularly in the evenings.

• Seomyeon Underground Shopping Center – Directly connected to Seomyeon Station; packed with clothing, accessories, and cosmetics.
• Jeonpo Cafe Street – A short walk away; a cool little neighborhood full of independent cafes, brunch spots, and small shops.

This is the only area I’ve not stayed in, just because I prefer staying near the beach.

But I would try here next time during a longer stay with planned day trips, plus to experience more of the food and nightlife scene.

Upscale

• Lotte Hotel Busan – 5-star polished hotel with an indoor pool, good service, and direct access to shopping.
• Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Busan – Modern, comfortable, and well located.

Mid-Range & Budget

• Arban Hotel – Stylish rooms, comfortable beds, and breakfast; within walking distance of Seomyeon Station and nightlife.
• Lion Hotel – Simple but spacious, clean rooms and a convenient location for exploring the area.

So… Where to Stay in Busan?

If you’re still torn between these three, here’s the simplest way to choose:

• You want an easy, classic Busan beach experience, especially during summer: → Stay in Haeundae Beach.
• You care about city convenience, food options, and nightlife more than the ocean: → Stay in Seomyeon.
• You want ocean views, great cafes, and a slightly more relaxed, romantic vibe: → Stay in Gwangalli Beach.

If I had to pick one area to recommend to most people, I’d lean toward Gwangalli as the best area to stay in Busan, especially one across the beach like Homers Hotel.

You still get the beach, but with beautiful bridge views at night and a less chaotic feel than some other parts of the city.

However, if you’re visiting during the summer and enjoy the lively vibe, stay at Haeundae.

Either way, have a great time in Busan!
