Izakaya Masaka is an all-vegan restaurant that serves mainly Japanese food, located on the basement floor of Parco mall in Shibuya.

Their main items are vegan kaarage (fried meat), mapo tofu, and dumplings.

I got the kaarage + rice lunch set with tartar sauce, which tasted like a yolky sauce.

The vegan meat was tender and sauce were both so good. I would definitely go again!

Tip:

  • Arrive just before or at opening time to avoid waiting in line.
  • You order on a tablet at your seat, then pay at the counter after.

Vegan Bistro Jangara is a popular restaurant that serves vegan ramen in Tokyo near the Shibuya station.

I got the vegan Tonkotsu ramen with vegan meat and garlic oil.

It was good and filling, but not the top vegan ramen I’ve eaten in Japan. Still, I’d visit again to try other items.

Tip:

  • Located on the 2nd floor. You take the elevator up.
  • There’s lots of seating, including one big table for solo-goers, but I still suggest going during non-peak hours.

3. Komeda IS

Iced Frappuccino - Komeda IS Vegan Restaurant in Tokyo, Japan: A tall glass of iced frappuccino topped with a generous swirl of whipped cream, served at a table in Komeda IS vegan restaurant with a digital menu screen in the background.

They serve pancakes, sandwiches, burgers, and desserts.

I got the tonkotsu soy cutlet sandwich, fries, and iced frappuccino, and all were pretty solid! I would come back to try other items.

  • You order from an individual tablet at your seat and pay afterwards at the counter.

Vegan Gyoza Yu serves all-vegan gyoza and drinks and is located north of Ueno Park.

While it’s a bit farther from center and slightly pricier, it was probably my favorite meal in Tokyo.

Each vegan gyoza was so flavorful and filling. I would 100% come here again!

Tip:

  • You can order it pan-fried or steamed.
  • There’s covered indoor and outdoor seating. Try to avoid peak hours, but the wait would be worth it!

5. Hatoya’s Vegan Fruit Sandwiches

I got the strawberry one and it was really good and the cream was perfect.

Tip:

  • There’s a small bench to sit on if you want to eat there.
  • You can find other vegan fruit cream sandwiches in Tokyo too. This is probably the cheapest.

The featured item is the "Golden Sesame Tantan" ramen, depicted in a large, vibrant image showcasing a bowl of ramen topped with fresh greens, pickled vegetables, sesame seeds, and a dollop of a creamy sauce. Below the main image, there are additional combo options, including vegetable gyoza, rice, and a mini bowl with vegan char siu. The menu provides clear descriptions and prices for each dish, along with a notation that the restaurant serves exclusively vegan options, indicated by the "Oriental Veg OK!" label.

I got the Golden Sesame Ramen with dumplings and rice on the side. It was a satisfying ramen, and service was friendly and fast despite it being busy.

I would go here again to try the other sets, especially if I’m taking a JR train out of Tokyo.

Tip:

  • Most locations are located inside the train gates, so you will either have to be in transit, or pay to get inside the train gates.
  • Read the reviews on Google for tips on finding the location, as these are located inside busier stations and it can get confusing!
  • You’ll likely have to wait in line, but service is fast, and most locations have a decent number of seating.

Jikasei MENSHO is not a vegan restaurant, but their vegan ramen continues to get really good ratings.

The restaurant is located on the basement floor of Parco mall in Shibuya, next to Izakaya Masaka vegan restaurant.

They have four vegan ramen options:

  • Vegan miso ramen
  • Vegan miso spicy ramen
  • Vegan tantamen ramen
  • Vegan tantamen tamen without soup

I got the vegan tantanmen ramen, and it was definitely the most flavorful vegan ramen in Tokyo and Japan that I’ve tried. Though I wish it was a bit more soupy!

Taiyaki is a fish-shaped pastry that’s typically filled with sweet red bean paste.

Taiyaki is usually not vegan, but this one is!

I crave it often, it was so good! The only other vegan taiyaki I’ve come across was in Fukuoka.

Tip:

  • It’s better fresh and eaten on the spot. They don’t have any seating, but it’s common for people to stand outside and eat it.
  • The all-vegan convenience and health food store, Weller, is just a few minutes walk away!
  • Their soft serve isn’t vegan.

They also have convenience store food items like onigiri, rice bowls, sandwiches, and desserts.

I got the vegan bibimbap and it was tasty and flavorful.
