What to See at Uminonakamichi Seaside Park + How to Get There

On my recent trip to Fukuoka, I visited Uminonakamichi Seaside Park—a huge coastal park just across the bay from the city.

I happened to be there during the Nemophila “baby blue eyes” season, and the flower fields were even more stunning in person.

The park is massive, with gardens, playgrounds, sports fields, and even a water park.

Here are my tips for visiting Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, including how to get there and top things to see.

Park Costs & Tips — Entry, Bike Rental & Transit Prices

The Entrance fee is 450 yen ($2.85 USD).

You can rent a bike for 500 yen for 3 hours. The park grounds is quite big, so it’s the fastest way to explore most of the park and utilize the maps available or ask someone for directions.

The walk from the main entrance of the park to the flower fields is a 15-20 minute walk.

Transit Costs:

  • Bus ride to Uminonakamichi Seaside Park from Tenjin: 680 yen ($4.70 USD each way).
  • Train ride from Hakata Station + transfer: 480 yen ($3.30 USD each way).
  • If you drive, parking lot fee: 530 yen ($3.65 USD).

Top Things to See at Uminonakamichi Seaside Park

Allocate at least half a day for visiting, including getting to and from the park. Some activities and areas are only open during certain seasons i.e. swimming pool in summer.

1. Seasonal Flower Museum

The park is famous for its seasonal flower displays, especially during spring for the blue nemophila flowers and vibrant fields in autumn.

The flower gardens also has tulips, roses, and sunflowers that bloom in different seasons.

I went at the tail end of the rose season, but there were some left.

2. Park Cycling Paths

You can rent a bicycle to explore the park’s many cycling paths for 500 yen ($3 USD) for 3 hours. The paths are well-marked and offer routes of different lengths.

You can also join a fun segway tour to get around.

3. Scenic Ponds

There’s various ponds throughout the park.

The smaller ponds are located in the central part of the park, while larger ones like Duck Pond and Forest Pond are farther east and require a bit more travel.

4. Beaches and Sea Views

You can relax on the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park’s sandy beaches or enjoy sea views on the lookout platforms.

I wish I had walked a bit further to find these. Definitely plan ahead on what you’d like to see!

5. Sky Shelter

This is located towards the west-end parking lot and perfect for photo ops.

6. Fun Activities for Kids

Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is very kid-friendly if you’re traveling with children. Here’s some of the activities:

  • Large playground area
  • Swimming pool (open during summer)
  • Go-karts and slides
  • Crafts workshops

7. Cozy Picnic Areas

There are grass areas plus designated spots throughout the park to enjoy a picnic. Some are equipped with tables and benches.

You can also use the covered tables as shown above.

There are also a few restaurants and cafes located at Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, but you can also bring your own food.

I enjoyed just sitting on the grass.

When to Visit — Flower Seasons & Weather Tips

If you visit in Spring you’ll see:

  • Nemophilia blue flower field
  • Cherry blossom
  • Rose gardens

If you visit in Summer you’ll see:

  • Swimming
  • Hydrangeas
  • Spider lilies

If you visit in Autumn you’ll see:

  • Red Kochia flowers

How to get to Uminonakamichi Seaside Park

There are multiple ways to get to the park. Going there, I took a direct bus from Tenjin. Afterwards, I took the train to explore nearby areas.

Both train and bus are within a few minutes walk to the park.

By Train

Take the JR Kagoshima Line from Hakata Station to Kashii Station (12 minutes), then transfer to the JR Kashii Line and ride to Uminonakamichi Station (16 minutes).

By Bus

If you’re coming from the Tenjin area, there are two direct buses, bus 25A that will take around 45 minutes, and a non-stop bus that takes 26 minutes.

Both drop you off a few minutes walk from the park.

By Ferry

You can also take the ferry from Fukuoka’s Hakata Bay to Uminonakamichi. The ferry departs from the Bayside Place Hakata ferry terminal.

The ferry ride takes about 20 minutes and drops you off at Uminonakamichi Ferry Terminal, just a short walk from the park entrance.

By Car

If you drive to the park is a parking lot, with a 530 yen fee ($3.65 USD).

Is Uminonakamichi Seaside Park Worth the Trip?

I would go to Uminonakamichi Seaside Park again, especially during the peak times of the different flower seasons. I feel like I just scratched the surface during my visit!

If you go, plan ahead on what activities you want to do, and see where they’re located on the map.

I mainly went to see the blue flower fields and relax on the grassy areas, but that itself was so peaceful and scenic.
