Asiana Vegan Meal Options (Review + Photos)

I recently flew with Asiana in November 2024 from San Francisco to Seoul.

Though it wasn’t the greatest food, thankfully they had a reliable vegan option.

Here’s my review of Asiana vegan meal options plus how to reserve it (as it’s not straight-forward).

If you’re traveling to South Korea as a vegan for the first time:

Asiana Vegan Meal Options

They technically provide four vegan meal options, but I always go with the indicated vegan option to be safe.

The second one on the list is vegetarian and includes dairy:

Asiana Vegan Meal Review

My flight was about 13 hours from San Francisco to Seoul.

They provided 2 meals plus a sandwich.

Here’s what I got:

First meal: rice with unseasoned vegetables, fruit, bread roll and vegan butter, salad with a slice of lemon.

Vegan lunch tray on a flight, including rice, steamed carrots, mushrooms, broccoli, a side salad, fruit slices, and bread.

I still ate everything, but sadly everything was quite bland and the rice was a bit hard.

I did try adding the vegan butter to the vegetables instead.

I think next time, I’ll bring a packet of seasoning or salt if I fly with them again.

Second meal: rice with unseasoned vegetables, fruit, apple sauce, bread roll and vegan butter.

I hate to complain about a reliable vegan option, but the main meal was also tasteless.

I still ate everything because it’s vegan, but my favorite thing here was the apple sauce. 😅

Sandwich: unseasoned slices of lettuce, tomato, and cucumber.

To be honest, I did make myself eat this to not waste food. 😭

It was very dry and plain. I think I should carry packets of ketchup with me on flights.

How to Request a Asiana Vegan Meal

Unfortunately, you can’t reserve a special meal when you book your flight.

On their website, it says to call them to reserve the meal.

They have different numbers to call depending on your country: flyasiana.com/C/GB/EN/contents/domestic-overseas-branches

Like the Millennial I am, I didn’t want to call and poked around their website.

Scroll down on the reservations page to the Additional Services section and click on the “Apply/Change” button under Special In-flight Meal Request:

Additional services menu for a flight, showing options for seat assignment, baggage allowance, and special in-flight meal requests.

You can also send a chat to their AI chatbot on the top right of the page, and request a special meal.

The chatbot will send you a link to make a request. It will look like this:

Screen displaying meal selection for a flight, with the vegan vegetarian meal option highlighted under vegetarian/fruit meals.

Confirm that the meal was processed by going back to the Additional Services under your reservation:

Selected vegan meal confirmation screen, specifying San Francisco to Seoul flight details with a vegan meal.

Asiana Vegan Meals Are Just Okay!

I fly to Asia often, and Asiana is usually one of the main choices going to South Korea, or for a transfer.

They’re a good airline choice with friendly staff, but if I had to choose again with similarly-priced flights to the same destination, I would go with a different airline based on the vegan food alone, sorry. 🥲

I flew with Air Premia for my flight back to San Francisco from Seoul and did enjoy their vegan meal option a bit more. Korean Air’s vegan meals are also good.
